The Humdinger 480 chain disc harrow, also known as “The Beast,” lives up to its name in all senses of the word. We designed this construction-grade diamond harrow with performance and longevity in mind.

LEARN MORE

For this same reason, we install Bute Disc chains on our machines. These are the most versatile disc chains on the market and give you the most bang for your buck.

Designed to improve your bottom line – Our chain disc harrow saves you time and lowers your farm operating costs.

SIMPLISTIC THREE FOLD SYSTEM

The three fold system is controlled by sequence valving to prevent incorrect folding

FULLY WELDED FRAME

Offers zero maintenance and increases frame longevity

MECHANICAL LOCKING MECHANISM

Provides secure transport and eliminates hydraulic stress

CUSTOM ROTATORS

Our custom fabricated rotators feature thrust bearings to provide a superior life span

BREAK AWAY CHAIN HANGERS

Hangers feature a break away mechanism to reduce the possibility of improper folding and frame damage

NARROW TRANSPORT WIDTH

A narrow transport width allows for ease of roading

FLOTATION 558 TIRES

Tires provide needed traction and reduce ground pressures in wet conditions and loose soils. The single tire system provides low operating cost and reduces maintenance

FIELD FRIENDLY TENSIONERS

Tensioners and chain height can be easily adjusted in the field using provided tools

TURNBUCKLE SYSTEM

Humdinger utilizes turn buckle adjustments on the rear chain assemblies. This paired with our rear chain overlap eliminates tracking and provides 100% field coverage

TILLAGE SYSTEMS BUILT TO PERFORM THROUGH SPRING, SUMMER, AND FALL – YEAR AFTER YEAR

  • 17 bearings on the entire machine that only have to be greased twice a year and just one daily grease point.
  • Discs and weights are able to be added/removed in the field while the chain is connected.
  • Farmers are able to operate at speeds of 8 MPH+ and quickly produce a single pass seed bed.
  • Ships field ready with no assembly required.
  • Designed, manufactured, and serviced in the United States.
  • Backed by a 2 year industry leading warranty.
  • Utilizing chain disc harrow mechanical tillage drives down the cost of chemical applications.
  • The Bute chain modular system gives a 70% cost savings over competitor systems at the time of replacement.
  • One chain is able to adapt to all seasons and soils.
  • Low horsepower requirements paired with +/- 40APH production lowers operating costs.
  • Cutting discs have 150-160% more wearable surfaceacres.

Working Width 48 ft | Tire Size 558 flotation 400/55/22.5 | HP Requirement 300+ | Shipping Weight 26K lbs | Transport 162″ W X 684″ L X 150″ H | Control System Three Circuit Hydraulic

Benefits

  • Single-pass chains mean less fuel, time, and labor lowering your operating costs significantly.
  • Adjustable, modular chains are cost efficient – You are not investing in a new chain system for each season and different types of soil.
  • Bute Discs modular system gives a 70% cost savings over competitor chains at the time of replacement.Disc and weight adjustments are able to be added/removed in the field while the chain is connected.
  • Cutting discs have 150-160% more wearable surface areas than the competitor due to a larger, thicker disc with more concavity.
  • Bute Discs offer the most aggressive chain option on the market. Heavy gumbos or arid, compacted grounds don’t stand a chance.

Bute Discs can be retrofitted to ANY diamond harrow

FAQ’s

WHAT ARE THE OPERATING SPEEDS?

HEQ finishing chain- 7-10MPH
625 Cutting disc 7-10Mph
625 Dull 7-10MPH
850 Cutting 7-9MPH
850 Dull 7-10 MPH
Speeds are a suggested guideline. In field conditions and environments will dictate your actual speed. It is always recommended to operate at a speed that fits your field and provides you with your preferred finish. Too low of an operating speed can impact the finish of the field and produce undesirable results. And too high of a speed can cause chain bounce/whip that will impact the finish as well.

CAN BUTE CHAINS FIT ON OTHER MACHINES?

Yes, Bute Chain can be fitted onto any diamond harrow. Any brand, any size, and any year.

HOW DO I SERVICE MY ROTATOR BEARINGS?

It is recommended that rotators are serviced twice annually, once in the Fall prior to storing the machine for winter, and then again in the Spring midway through the season. Humdinger’s custom built rotators feature heavy duty thrust bearings for a superior lifespan. Our rotators can also be rebuilt utilizing common Timken bearings.

IS IT NECESSARY TO LIFT THE MACHINE WHEN TURNING?

No, Humdinger Chain Disc Harrows are designed to be left at working height through out operation in the field. It is recommended to skip GPS lines, as to maintain speed and to increase the performance of the harrow.

WHY IS MY MACHINE LEAVING A FURROW IN THE CENTER?

The rear rotator height is too low at the rear of the machine. This can be quickly and easily fixed.
– Remove the safety pins from the turnbuckle.
– Insert a prybar into the center portion of the turnbuckle
– Rotate the turnbuckle until the first and second disc are barely touching the soil.
– It is important to remember that this may need to be adjusted lower in the Spring to achieve proper finish, And higher in the Fall to allow proper flow of crop residue.

WHY IS THERE A PORTION OF UNWORKED GROUND IN THE CENTER OF THE MACHINE?

Your machine is out of adjustment. Having proper chain heights and tensions is a must for an even finish in the field. Look to these areas to re-adjust.
– The front chains are too low, when the front chains are engaging too much soil, they will leave a mound at the center of the machine and the consequent gangs will overwork the mound and throw dirt to the right hand wing. Because of this, the discs were not able to engage the ground properly. Raise the front, to pull the front gangs out of the ground.
– Make sure that the front and rear center gangs are at a proper height on the leading and tailing discs. The first and last 2 discs should barely engage the soil.
– Ensure that proper tension is maintained on the center gangs, there are warning decals that detail the tension and locations of measurement to ensure that even the most novice of operators have the information provided for them to be successful.

ARE DIAMOND HARROWS EFFECTIVE FOR LEVELING FIELDS AND FILLING RUTS?

Yes, the unique lateral movement of soil being worked by a Humdinger makes it an effective tool at leveling fields and filling in ruts ahead of the planter.

WHY IS MY MACHINE NOT FOLDING CORRECTLY?

Humdinger harrows feature a unique 3- fold sequence that operates using flow restrictors and sequencing valves. This provides ease of operation and a safety net that helps to reduce improper folding. However, it is still possible for them to sometimes be folded improperly or to experience difficulties.
– It is recommended that tractor hydraulic flow be reduced to 20-30% flow rate to reduce the instances of improper folding.
– It is important to have the tongue lowered prior to folding and unfolding.
– Take notice that the mechanical lock has been engaged prior to transportation, this provided relief to the hydraulic system during roading, and helps to increase the longevity of the componentry.
